After West Bengal was awarded with the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for ‘Banglar Rasogolla’ (Bengal Rasogolla), the Odisha government announced a few hours later that it was “in process” of obtaining the same for ‘Odishara Rasagolla.’
- A geographical indication (GI) is a name or sign used on certain products which corresponds to a specific geographical location or origin (e.g. a town, region, or country).
- India, as a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), enacted the Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 has come into force with effect from 15 September 2003.
- This Act is administered by Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks, who is also Registrar of Geographical Indications.
- GIs have been defined under Article 22(1) of the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights(TRIPS) Agreement.
- Darjeeling tea became the first GI tagged product in India.

(1) Pochampally Ikat of Telangana
(2) Gobindobhog rice of West Bengal
(3) Durgi stone carvings of Andhra Pradesh
(4) Etikoppaka toys of Andhra Pradesh
(5) Chakshesang shawl of Nagaland
(7) Tulaipanji rice of West Bengal

Odisha, WB to hold first-ever joint coastal security exercise “Sagar Kavach”
- The governments of Odisha and neighbouring West Bengal are going to organize a joint security exercise named as 'Sagar Kavach' to further tighten the existing coastal security mechanism along the 630 km long coastline.
- "Sagar Kavach” security exercise is a drill to check the efficacy of the security parameters and preparedness of various security forces like the Indian Navy, Marine police force, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) etc.
- Odisha for the first time will have a joint security drill along with West Bengal.

UP tops in mobilising Jan Dhan A/Cs
- Uttar Pradesh tops in opening new PMJDY accounts after demonetisation.
- One-fifth of the more than five crores new PMJDY accounts in the Indian banking system came from Uttar Pradesh alone.
- Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (P.M.J.D.Y) is India's National Mission for Financial Inclusion to ensure access to financial services, namely Banking Savings & Deposit Accounts, Remittance, Credit, Insurance, Pension in an affordable manner.
- It was announced by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 15th August 2014 and Mega launch was done by him on 28th August 2014 across the country.

Inland Waterways Authority of India pushes for early completion of Jal Marg Vikas Project on Ganga
- These projects are part of the Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) on National Waterway -I.
- The Jal Marg Vikas Project (JMVP) on NW-1 is being implemented with the financial and technical support of the World Bank.
- The Project entails development of fairway with 3 meters depth between Varanasi and Haldia (Phase-I) covering a distance of 1380 km at an estimated cost of Rs. 5369 crore with target for completion in six years.
- The major works being taken up under JMVP are development of fairway, Multi-Modal Terminals, strengthening of river navigation system, conservancy works, modern River Information System (RIS), Digital Global Positioning System (DGPS) etc.

The report, ‘India: Health of the Nation’s States India State-level Disease Burden Initiative’
- The report, ‘India: Health of the Nation’s States India State-level Disease Burden Initiative’, was released by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.
- The first ever “health of the nation” state-level disease burden study has turned on its head the perception that some states, placed higher on the development ladder, are better than others in terms of health.
- Tuberculosis: Highest in UP, followed by Assam, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and MP.
- Lower respiratory infections: Highest in Rajasthan, Bihar, UP, MP and Assam, followed by Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh.
- Iron-deficiency anaemia: Highest in Bihar, Assam and Jharkhand, followed by Rajasthan, MP and UP.
- DALY is an internationally recognised metric to rate a disease or health condition, and is calculated as the sum of years of life lost due to premature mortality and the years lost due to disability in people living with a health condition or suffering its consequences.

First ever Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (Apcert) Conference
- The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) under the aegis of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology organised the Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Team (APCERT) Conference on November 12-15, 2017 in New Delhi.
- This is the 15th Conference of APCERT and first ever conference in India and South Asia and is expected to be attended by 21 economies.
- The conference theme is "Building Trust in the Digital Economy".
- This conference would cover contemporary topics around strategies of CERTs, Technology and Instruments for building trust in digitally evolving economies and best practices for handling cyber security in mobile and social media.
